After the train departed, I got out my new Harry Potter book and began reading. A few stations down the line the inspector arrived to check my ticket.

‘‘Arry Po’er?’ He nosied. ‘Is that a good one of ‘is?’

‘So far so good,’ I replied.

‘Yeah,’ he continued. ‘I used to like his mum’s books when I was a lad. Pe’er Rabbit, Mrs.Tiggy Win’le, Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies wonderful!’

He was interrupted by his mobile phone as I stared at him disbelievingly. When he’d finished his conversation he chortled, ‘Old Farmer McGreggor, he used to make me laugh! Sadistic bastard!’

‘So you haven’t read ‘Harry Potter and the Philistine’s Phone’, then?’ I asked sarcastically.

‘No, no, I ‘aven’t read any of ‘is books, mate!’

It was that that made me realise that I had left my phone at home. It doesn’t matter, though, because I don’t need it.

Thankfully, after that, he moved on.

I arrived at Cardiff Central Station at around four o’clock. I then caught the next available train to Penarth and got off at Dingle Road Station, which is the closest to my grandparents’ house.

By this time I was famished. I had to keep an eye out for my grandparents as I got myself a fish cake and chips.

There is a bed and breakfast place right opposite my grandparents’ house. I asked them if they had a room available that faced the road. They did and I gave the landlady, Mrs Long, thirty pounds for the night.

The room is just a bedroom with a television a bed and a chair in it. There was also a tallboy in which I put my backpack.

I took up surveillance at the window, but nobody alighted from the house before I started to feel really tired.

What a day!
